Intern, Library and Programming – YourClassical
YourClassical® is a collection of curated classical music listening experiences and information produced by Minnesota Public Radio and American Public Media Group. YourClassical provides audiences with the music they love through terrestrial broadcasts and multiple web-based platforms.
YourClassical is looking for a new generation of producers who are willing to work behind the scenes to help create new and maintain existing programming offerings. By helping the YourClassical programming team add several thousand new pieces of music to our digital libraries, you will play an integral part in evolving YourClassical’s sound across our broadcast and digital channels, attracting new audiences that will sustain YourClassical’s growth in the future.
Key Learning Goals:
Through immersive learning and real-world projects, our goal is for you to learn:
- How the programming team selects music for YourClassical’s various content platforms
- How metadata serves our programming philosophy and informs our decision-making
- How attention to detail in all facets of the CD ripping project impacts not just the programming team, but hosts and producers who use and present the music in our digital library
Responsibilities:
In this hands-on role, you will work directly with our Music Director with the following:
- Rip audio from CDs to Dalet, YourClassical’s play-to-air system that is the backbone of our radio and on-demand streaming content
- Edit audio in Dalet to ensure proper levels, heads/tails, and accuracy of metadata
- Work with programming team to suggest deployment strategies for newly-ripped music, including on-air, online, and on demand

Programming:
- Participate in robust on-boarding experience
- Professional development: on-the-job training, intercultural development assessment, formal performance review feedback sessions, etc.
- Participate in brown bag sessions to gain broader perspective of the organization
Required Qualifications:
Students who are currently enrolled and have completed one year of a 2-year or 4-year undergraduate program, are enrolled in a graduate program, or have earned a degree in the last 12 months
- Ability to work at least 24 hours per week, Monday – Friday in our St. Paul office
- Working knowledge of classical music’s composers, artists, forms, and history
- Understanding of Microsoft Excel
- Basic knowledge of audio editing software
- Attention to detail is a must. Any errors in this role have a cascading effect on multiple systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of classical music with experience in performance and/or historical research
- Experience with database programs such as Microsoft Access
- Experience with audio editing software such as Adobe Audition or ProTools
- Knowledge of broadcast play-to-air systems such as Dalet, NextGen, Enco, WideOrbit, or others
