Position Description:
The Agriculture Extension Field Educator/Administrative Assistant is responsible for
conducting community base educational activities to the general population of Oglala
Lakota College’s current service area and assisting the Agriculture Extension Director
with all administrative duties as needed or in their absence. Community base educational
activities conducted by this position will be in the form of workshops, seminars, or
oneon-one trainings as needed by the community clients to meet their individual needs
related to agriculture or community development. (All trainings conducted are noncollege
credit and cannot be transferred to college credit if requested by clients as per
Federal Extension Educational guidelines of the 1914 the Smith-Lever Act (page 4 of
The Land Grant Tradition: https://www.aplu.org/library/the-land-grant-tradition/file ).
There for this position is not allowed to instruct any college credited classes during
normal staff working hours.)
Job Duties:
Agriculture Extension Field Educator/Administrative Assistant will report to the
Agriculture Extension Director.
1. Reports directly to the Agriculture Extension Department Director.
2. Facilitates agricultural educational programing to Oglala Lakota College (OLC)
service area in knowledge areas requested by community clients.
3. Completes a daily log of agricultural community activities assists with the
departmental annual reporting; development of agriculture related curricula,
factsheets, webpages, newsletters, etc.; and surveys OLC community for
agriculture related activity training needs.
4. Work with Tribal and nontribal organizations within OLC service area in
planning joint training activities and also in communication of information that
benefits local adult and youth agriculture producers and community members.
5. Work across OLC Departments to benefit community members and agriculture
producers.
6. Performs administrative task as assigned.
7. Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture (or related field of science/education)
preferred. Associate of Arts/Science in Agriculture (or related field of
science/education) required.
2. Experienced working with people on training activities related to agriculture
and/or youth.
3. Demonstrated ability to organize and plan community based training workshops,
seminars, etc. or to conduct them by yourself.
4. Ability to utilize computer software as Word, Excel, Access, Power Point,
Publisher, etc. software programs.
5. Wiliness to become familiar with Oglala Lakota College policy and procedures.
6. Familiarity with Oglala Lakota College community service area.
7. Knowledge of Pine Ridge Reservations land base, history, culture philosophy, and
language an asset.
