Assistant Project Designer
Dynamic, boutique public affairs firm providing outreach and engagement on some of the largest and most exciting public infrastructure projects in the region is seeking a full-time Designer and Assistant Project Manager. The ideal candidate is passionate about public outreach and engagement and one or all of the following: urban design, graphic design, urban planning, public engagement and outreach, environmental sustainability, community development and plans, marketing, administration, communications and transformation of urban settings.
This dual role combines graphic design with project management, focusing on the visual communication of urban planning and technical concepts and the facilitation of public engagement activities. The ideal candidate will create engaging visual materials that help facilitate meaningful engagement, while supporting outreach efforts for major public infrastructure projects, ensuring effective communication and collaboration. Candidate must be outgoing, flexible (willing to work evenings and weekends when needed), organized, attentive to detail, a strong writer, proficient in Microsoft Office & Google Suite, and social media savvy.
What you’d expect:
- Design compelling infographics, presentations, reports, maps, and marketing materials that communicate urban planning and technical project information clearly and effectively.
- Ability to utilize client and project branding guidelines to develop content that is consistent with project messaging and outreach goals.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of the TRG’s visual brand, ensuring consistency across all materials and platforms.
- Maintain TRG’s website and portfolio content with periodic updates, including social media and blog posts.
- Create visually captivating content for community outreach efforts, including events, workshops, public meetings, and online platforms, to enhance public understanding and engagement.
- Incorporate feedback from stakeholders and make necessary revisions to designs, maintaining a high standard of quality and attention to detail.
- Assist in implementing outreach programs related to CEQA/NEPA requirements, including organizing public hearings, community meetings, and events.
- Work within a small motivated team to develop and facilitate innovative outreach for transformative public projects throughout the Los Angeles region.
- Hybrid work environment and creative office space in Hollywood or Venice location.
- Support marketing initiatives by leading proposal content development and preparing requests for qualifications (RFQs) and proposals, updating qualifications documents and presentations, to enhance the TRG’s project opportunities.
- Provide day-to-day support for project management tasks, including tracking deliverables, maintaining project schedules, and managing databases of contacts and project comments.
- Facilitate community outreach activities, documenting engagement efforts and capturing feedback to inform project decisions.
- Support logistics for public outreach events, ensuring necessary materials and supplies are available and that meetings run smoothly.
What we’d expect:
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Urban Planning, Public Administration, Public Policy, Environmental Studies, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
- Proven experience in graphic design, preferably in urban planning, public policy, or related fields.
- Proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite: Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Canva).
- Experience with GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and creating maps or spatial analyses. Proficiency with ArcGIS and ArcGIS StoryMaps.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a small team, demonstrating flexibility in work hours (evenings and weekends as needed). Ability to setup events and meetings with occasional lifting (up to 20 lbs.) and transport of meeting materials needed.
- Strong inter-personal skills, ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary project teams and multi-task.
- Comfortable and confident in engaging with community members at public outreach events.
- Experience with email marketing, social media, web marketing software, WordPress or Drupal.
- A portfolio showcasing relevant design work and visual communication projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One or more years of experience in professional graphic design or related field.
- Understanding of urban planning concepts, CEQA/NEPA processes, and public engagement strategies.
- Interested in developing innovative ways of advancing public participation in pivotal projects within the Southern California region.
