Position Description:
Responsible for contacting Puget Sound alumni and parents and functioning as “friend-raisers”. Responsibilities will include: building rapport with prospects and providing information about the university. Leaving voicemails. Obtaining and processing pledges of monetary support. Updating prospect/donor information. Completing notes in the donor management system.
Advocates receive training prior to beginning shift duties. Advocates receive one (1) Not Tonight Card, which can be redeemed with Manager approval for one night off a semester. Shift flexibility is provided during Spring Break and finals’ week. Shifts are run in the evenings from 5:30-8:30pm on Monday-Thursdays and 3:30-6:30pm on Sundays. Optional day shifts are hosted throughout the semester.

Responsibilities will include:
- Friend-raising and fundraising with Puget Sound alumni and parents
- Building rapport and providing information about the university
- Inviting constituents to university events
- Obtaining and processing pledges
- Thanking donors for their support and learning why they give
- Participate in team building activities and games.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Employees must be able to develop a conversation with diverse individuals, even individuals with whom they may have very little in common.
- Employees must understand and be able to communicate the financial needs of the university and confidently solicit constituents for their philanthropic support.
- Employees aim to call between 45-70 constituents each night.
- Employees support the Office of Annual Giving’s annual goal by aiming to collectively raise approximately 20% of that monetary goal in support for the Puget Sound Fund! Your work here makes a real difference!
- Employees learn statistics about the university and the student body and should be able to communicate them to constituents.
- Employees must maintain high attention to detail and follow different policies and procedures for specific constituents and situations.
- Employees must be able to problem-solve, think critically on their feet, and work independently.
- Employees are required to attend training sessions before they begin calling. Employees will be paid for the training sessions.
- Employees are required to report for work on time, on the nights they are scheduled to work, and must work the entire shift they are scheduled.
- Employees are required to find their own replacements if they are unable to work a scheduled shift for any reasons other than sickness. Employees must clear absences with Managers before 12pm noon on the day of their scheduled shift, via email.
Furthermore, depending on circumstances, one (1) unexcused absence (no call, no show) may result in the employee’s dismissal from the Puget Sound Philanthropy Center program. Two (2) tardies translate into an unexcused absence.
- Advocates must review, sign and follow the expectations set by the O.U.R. Confidentiality Agreement, Communications Agreement, and the Puget Sound Philanthropy Center Attendance Policies.

Minimum Requirements (candidates must possess these requirements in order to be hired into this position):
Candidates must be able to explain and/or demonstrate that they possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Enthusiasm for Puget Sound, reliable, good verbal skills, creativity, detail-oriented, ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Must be extremely comfortable with asking for donations over the phone.
- Must be reliable and punctual.
- Must work well with others.
- Must be capable of working independently and of responding to constituent situations while on the phone.
- Must have the ability to convey enthusiasm for Puget Sound in a positive and mature manner.
- Must be willing to follow instructions and have a high regard for detail.
- Must be a currently enrolled student at the University of Puget Sound.
- Must have a clear, pleasant speaking voice and an excellent command of the English language.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
Hours per week: 9 hours
