Position Description: The purpose of this position is to assist the Recycling Team in maintaining an efficient and effective recycling program on campus. In order to achieve this vision, students are expected to work in collaboration with other students while completing individual tasks. These tasks will include, but are not limited to: handling recyclable waste from the campus community, promoting sustainability awareness and education on campus, helping to staff sustainable events which might occur after standard hours of operation, and providing additional support to the Director of Sustainability and student managers.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Remove recyclable waste from academic and residential areas and deposit in appropriate locations on campus.
- Sort & stage items collected during Move-Out for Grizz Garage at opening of next academic year.
- Assist in summer office clean-out tasks, such as sorting books and clothes for donation
- Conduct research for project-based work, such as expanding composting operations to campus Cafes.
- Design informational posters, Instagram posts, and other materials
- Acquire significant knowledge of sustainability practices as a whole as well as campus sustainability practices in order to serve as a conduit of information for sustainability for the campus community.
- Be able to effectively work as a team member as well as work individually on assigned tasks.
- Be comfortable with safely handling recyclable waste often weighing 10-50 pounds.
- Ability to drive vehicles and small gas powered equipment.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
- Make program streamlining recommendations to supervisors.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements (candidates must possess these requirements in order to be hired into this position):
- Be on feet for long periods of time.
- Ability to learn new programs, such as Excel and Canva.
- Effective communicator both verbally and in writing.
- Be able to work towards a deadline.
- An interest or background in sustainability is not necessary but highly desirable.

Hours per week: 40 hours
