Position Description:
Assist the directors during a one week day camp for middle school and high school brass students. Provide leadership to campers and help create a positive camp experience. Handle logistics, arrange classroom set up and act as stage crew for the culminating performance. Depending on qualifications, assist with teaching responsibilities.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
● Assist camp directors with music, paperwork and help coordinate logistics throughout the week.
● Set up and staff the registration table. Greet campers and make them feel welcome. Provide information and directions to campers and parents.
● Take daily attendance.
● Supervise campers during lunch and fee times.
● Move desks, chairs, stands, musical instruments, equipment and arrange classroom set up. Return items and properly store them at conclusion of camp.
● Make photocopies.
● Engage and interact with campers to enhance their learning experience.
● Act as stage crew for rehearsals and performances.
● Keep a record of the schedule and accurately report hours worked.
Minimum Requirements (candidates must possess these requirements in order to be hired into this position):
● Customer service experience and ability to communicate well with a broad and diverse constituency, including minors and teens.
● Excellent listening skills with the ability to understand and anticipate the needs of directors and campers.
● A personal style that is professional, friendly and will reflect positively on the university.
● General knowledge of music, music performance and music education. Brass playing experience preferred, but not required. Music majors and music education majors preferred.
● Physically strong enough to move chairs, stands, musical equipment, and instruments.
● Familiarity with office equipment (such as photocopiers) or ability to gain familiarity quickly.
● Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
● A strong sense of responsibility that includes importance placed on promptness
This Position has access to, interaction with or unrestricted contact with minors or vulnerable adults.
Hours per week: 35 hours total for June 24 – 28, 2024
