Position Description:
Assist the Course Instructor/Director for MUS 119/319: Opera Theater in the preparation and execution of the spring production – Rehearsals January through late March, and production/tech/performances in late March/early April.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Duties Include (note that all of these will be executed in consult with the course instructor/director):
- Attend weekly meetings with the production team during the spring course rehearsal process.
- Head up communication/act as liaison between the cast and production team.
- Send out weekly rehearsal schedules for MUS 119/319.
- Head up props acquisition.
- Coordinate dramaturgical information distribution.
- Coordinate costume fittings.
- Coordinate and assist with set needs/acquisition.
- Take notes during rehearsals (including sending line notes) and send them to MUS 119/319 course members/cast.
- Help course instructor to ensure safe rehearsal practices (regarding any stage combat, lifts, intimacy, etc.)
- Head up communication/coordinate between production team and Schneebeck Concert Hall crew/manager for hall/equipment/set up needs during rehearsals, sitzprobes, and performances.
- Coordinate “paper tech” with Lighting, Sound Designer, Music Director, and Director.
- Call the show during tech/dress rehearsals and the performances itself from the booth.
- Coordinate and help execute “strike” post-final performance.
- General stage manager duties include weekly team meetings, setting stage, setting lights, tidying equipment after events, moving acoustical towers, maintaining green room, and other duties as needed.

Candidates must be able to explain and/or demonstrate that they possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Maintain professional and courteous conduct under pressure
- Able to lift fifty pounds and move pianos, chairs, stands, risers, acoustical towers, and various band/orchestra equipment
- Responsible and careful with expensive equipment
- Musical background and score reading required.
Hours per week: 9 hours
Student staff are not eligible for telework. Students must work in person from a designated work location on campus other than a residence.
