Position Description:
The purpose of this position is to assist the Recycling Team in maintaining an efficient and effective recycling program on campus. In order to achieve this vision, students are expected to work in collaboration with other students while completing individual tasks. These tasks will include, but are not limited to: handling recyclable waste from the campus community, promoting sustainability awareness and education on campus, helping to staff sustainable events which might occur after standard hours of operation, and providing additional support to the Director of Sustainability and student managers.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
● Remove recyclable waste from academic and residential areas and deposit in appropriate locations on campus.
● Assist in staffing sustainable, Zero-Waste, and campus events. On occasion these events will occur after normal business hours.
● Acquire significant knowledge of sustainability practices as a whole as well as campus sustainability practices in order to serve as a conduit of information for sustainability for the campus community.
● Be able to effectively work as a team member as well as work individually on assigned tasks.
● Be willing to work spring and fall break if necessary to maintain recycling operations.
● Be comfortable with safely handling recyclable waste often weighing 10-50 pounds.
● Assist managers in waste audits.
● Ability to drive vehicles and small gas powered equipment.
● Be willing to attend an approximately one hour monthly training meeting.
● Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
● Make program streamlining recommendations to supervisors.
● As time allows, participate in projects related to campus sustainability.
● Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements (candidates must possess these requirements in order to be hired into this position):
● Be able to deadlift at least 30 lbs.
● Be on feet for long periods of time.
● Have a valid driver’s license.
● Ability to use Microsoft Suite.
● Effective communicator both verbally and in writing.
● Be able to work towards a deadline.
● An interest or background in sustainability is not necessary but highly desirable.
● Ability to work move-out/graduation weekend strongly preferred.

Hours per week: 40 hours
